The book won both the John Newbery Medal from the Association for Library Service to Children, and the Golden Kite Award from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, in 2011.
While adjusting to her new home, she and her cousins finds themselves pulled into an adventure revealing long-kept family secrets, and a map leading to buried pirate treasure. Her mother takes a housekeeping job for a woman who despises children, so Turtle is sent to Key West, Florida, to live with an aunt she has never met. Originally published in 2010, Turtle in Paradise follows an 11-year old girl named Turtle, who is growing up during the Great Depression. Adapting the book is artist Savanna Ganucheau. Random House Graphic has announced a graphic novel adaptation of Turtle in Paradise, the award winning middle-grade novel from Jennifer L.
